Telepresence
Research Group Corpos Informáticos
The research group Corpos Informáticos was
created at the University of Brasília (Brazil) by researchers,
professors and students from the Visual Arts and the Scenic Arts
Courses in 1992[i].
Telepresence discuss the possibility of poetic interaction
in telematic environment (performance), the possibility of the absent
body to participate in effective aesthetic experience, using the
internet as space of realization and the public (on line and live
audience) as co authors of the work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[i] Nowadays, the group is constituted by the following researchers
in Art: Alexandre Cerqueira, Bia Medeiros (coordinator), Carla Maria
Alves da Rocha, Cyntia Carla, Francisco Rah, Maicyra Leão,
Marta Mencarini, Pablo Braz, Renata Barreto.
The Research Group Corpos Informáticos
explores Contemporary Art and New Technologies. The guideline of
its reflections has been that of human beings "redimensioned"
by omnipresent technologies. Its practices involve interactive exhibitions,
performances, video-performances, video-installations, video art,
urban interventions, performances in telepresence, and via Internet.
Its theoretical basis is to reach a broader analysis of the contemporary
artistic languages concerning technology. Using the World Wide Web,
popular softwares of videoconferencing and potentially integrated
diverse medias present in our day by day lives, the group has been
a pioneer in telepresence performance in Brazil.
The group has been awarded with grants and fellowships
from the National Council for Scientific Research – CNPq;
University of Brasilia - UnB (1992-2002); and the Federal District
Research Support Foundation - FAP-DF (1994 -1997); granted a variety
of prizes, screenings at a worldwide range of festivals and participating
in national and international shows and congresses - Electronic
Language International Festival, Brazil; Medi@terra, Greece; “Mercosul”
Biennial, Brazil; RePerCuTe, USA, Performative Sites, USA; Performance
Studies International, Germany and USA.
