The telematic, collaborative installation ‘FAÇADE’
took place in October 2004 at Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia.
Images of the SBS/ACMI façade at Federation Square were projected
onto the building itself and aligned to match the actual facade,
except that the projected image was altered in colour. The public
determined what colours and design were projected through a java
web interface, with an image of the façade with basic tools
for ‘painting’, allowing a participant anywhere in the
world with access to the internet to determine what will be projected.
The individual designs submitted by the participants were scheduled
and played out over an evening, during the actual staging of the
physical component of the event, allowing local participants to
view the event on site, whilst those not able to physically attend
were able to see the projections through a web cast of the event.
