Irene Hanenbergh's Interactive CD-Rom 'the Forest'
explores the supernatural and genres of hyperreal fantasy/myth aesthetics.
Incorporating imagery reminiscent of mythological archetypes, secret
iconography, ritualistic ceremonies and Nordic mythology, the work
draws on darker forces and disturbing aspects of what are generally
perceived as harmless themes in traditional representations of fantasy
subject matter and the supernatural. The imagery is heavily informed
by the origins of Fantastic Realism painting, the navigation is
random, following a tradition of nonlinear Fantastic-Realistic narratives.
