Misplaced

Commissioned in 2004 by Rhizome.org, Misplaced Reliquary is a handheld curiosity cabinet containing the holy relics collected by an eccentric curator. The relics are contained within a virtual repository taking the form of a gameboy advance ROM that can be \"played\" online and/or downloaded to any gameboy advance (with the correct transfer hardware). An artist\'s edition of five game cartridges has also been created.

Paul Catanese is a hybrid media artist and Assistant Professor of New Media at San Francisco State University. He received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he lectured for several years. His artwork has been exhibited internationally, notably at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Bangkok Experimental Film Festival, Paris’ Villette-Numerique, Germany’s Stuttgarter Filmwinter and the Canadian New Forms Festival. He is also the author of Director’s Third Dimension, a book on three-dimensional programming for interactive multimedia. Paul is currently working on a net.art commission for Turbulence.org with funds made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts as well as a commission for Rhizome.org.
