Alex Killough –Ken Burns Gives me Mouth to Mouth
– 2003 – 5 min USA
The story of a man surviving adversity, created around images of
old photographs found in a box on the street; the protagonist driven
mad by the insistence of the story teller that he must do so. The
naration is funneled through a filter which rearranges and distorts
the video signal. The distortions in the video signal are analyzed
to create noise to overlay and squelch the narration.
The loop of cause and effect calls into question which comes first,
the
subject matter or the materiality.

Alex killough The Easy Target 10:00 2002 USA
The early morning sound of the radio enters the dream/waking moments
of the sleeper. They suggest a non-sequential and tangential end
to the interrupted dream. The rhythmic quality of the announcer's
voice evokes a shifting pattern of the last images absorbed while
in bed, half-conscious the evening before. A remix of sorts ensues
combining "A Shot in the Dark", "Top Secret",
the nightly news, and canned vegetables. A parade of easy targets,
from the Myth of Sisyphus to the awkward anglo to the corporate
media.

Blemishes
On File, except \'Blemishes\': A study of a backyard landscape
and the audio-visual effects produced by feeding and re-feeding
the audio and video portions of a long panning shot back into one
another. A movement of both the camera view and through the mundane
camcorder image to complete abstraction and back, with a punchline
provided by deus-ex-machina flying insects.
