Epic Escapism - looping - 2005
A short looped video of a man staring at the sea. The waves
roll towards and away from the beach, locking him in a suspended
place and time. Both the man and the viewer become caught in a contemplative
trance with an unattainable desire for escape.
Barry Anderson was born in Greenville, a small
town in north Texas. He received his BFA in photography from the
University of Texas at Austin and his MFA in photography and digital
media from Indiana University. He currently lives in Kansas City,
Missouri. He has shown his photographs and videos in New York, Chicago,
San Francisco, Philadelphia, Houston, Washington, D.C., and abroad
in England, Russia, Cuba, Thailand and Brazil. Recently, he has
exhibited his work at FotoFest, an international biennial of photo-related
media in Houston, Texas; at the Art Museum of the Royal Pump Rooms
in Leamington Spa, England; and at the Museum of Contemporary Art
and Design in San Jose, Costa Rica. He has upcoming solo exhibits
in Toronto, St. Louis, Chicago and São Paulo, Brazil.
