Healing Service
SINOPSE: “Healing Service” is a split
screen videoprojection.
The upper window shows a subjective registration of the ritual of
a Hmong healer. The healer is in trance to ask the spirits what
to do to heal a young girl of the village.
The Hmong are a minority people living in the North of Thailand,
Laos and Birma.
In the lower window you can see a western “remix” of
this ritual. Props were made for this project and used in the ritual.
The actors are Belgian artists. I think an artist also has to be
a kind of ‘middelman’ between the spirits and the people.
Its his task to show and express the ‘unseen’ and the
‘invisible’.
The video has been edited in an extremely instinctive way
which reflects the artist’s experience.
Over- and underexposure are used as a deliberate dramatic effect.
