Cloudy Day

An helicopter doesn’t stop fl ying, on a moving landscape,
creating a visual imbalance. The question of probability of such
scene doesn’t intervene immediately because of its intrinsic
banality. However the camera doesn’t move, the landscape doesn’t
really change, only the unidentifi ed fl ying object, the air and
clouds seem to move. They become ghosts whose actual physicality
is questionable, they are
almost oneiric, mental constructions, troubling recurrences.

The expectation of something to happen is feeded by the medium video
used and what it induces.
Temporal element is inherent, something is probably going to happen...
The view of a peaceful house seems still, quiet... And then an airplane.
The action is stealthy, random, without any possible prediction.
The viewer is free to wait indefi nitely for a second passing by
of the plane to confi rm his vision...
The house is still quiet.
Antarctica
360° video in loop - 2004
53°06’S, 73°30’E, panoramic, 360°, the scene
takes place somewhere in Antarctica, an old scientific base from
the 40’s. The environment is empty, cold, silent, the landscape
abandoned. An airliner however goes in circle, stalked by the camera,
passes, the airliner goes around but the landscape doesn’t
change, it only gets temporality through the rotation, the revolution
of the plane, but it stays intact, freezed, cold, unreal, from another
time but nevertheless physical.unless it is the plane that follows
the movement of the camera. |
