La Campeona del Color, 2003
‘La Campeona del color’ is a film in the form
of a promotional video about a hairdresser in Elephant and Castle,
London. As part of her method for selecting the perfect hairstyle
for a person, she analyses her subject’s personality in order
to select the appropriate dye color for the hair. The change of
style of the subject is documented whereby in the final piece the
face is removed for a black void. Thus, the thorough analysis of
the face to develop the appropriate hair color is contrasted by
the fact that in the final piece the subject is entirely devoid
of an identity.
My work at the moment is concerned in border crossing,
identity and socio-economical roles. More importantly, I am seeking
to re-define the artist’s function in society by inter-lacing
the role with other professions and creating collaborations.
Florencia Guillen is a Mexican artist based in
the UK. She works mainly with video and has exhibited in festivals
in Italy, UK and Sweden. She had recently had her first solo show
at the Toilet Gallery, London.
