SOLSTÍCIO /5:00/2004

solstice: either of the two times of the year at which the sun is furtherst North or South of the equator.

This video shifts between images of a domestic interior, with sun light coming in through the windows and moving on the walls, and images from a television screen. The images of the screen show the scanning lines moving from side to side in the screen, making visible the electromagnetic process of the electrons activating its phosphorous surface. The television shows images from a home made video of a family anniversary in an ambient which is the same domestic interior that appears in the video with the sun light.

Both sequences were edited so their scenes become mixed. The movement of the sun rays and the scanning lines are put in the same velocity.

“Solstício” (Solstice) is an attempt to create a parallel between the sun light, which gives the possibility of seeing all things and the luminosity of the television screen generated by its own functioning.
