Crawl (collaboration Guo Ran/Mihai Grecu)_(6'40'')_2005
a common work of the graphic designer Guo Ran and video artist Mihai
Grecu, this experimental animation is a reflection on our society
placed in a surrealistic background. Freely inspired by Kafka's
”Metamorphosis” this film plays on the absurd and narrowness
of contemporary human relations. The characters that have caricatured
looping gestures interrelate with the scenery in a spontaneous 2d/3d
mix.The cold minimal graphic style emphasizes the critical point
of view on some of the social order's keynotes: the family, consumerism,
television...With its exaggerated protagonists and its abstract
chronology, 'crawl' is postmodern tale...

Metamorph No.2
A mix of biological archive images, 3d animation and video interrogating
the concepts of “parasite”, “clonage”, “virus”
and “documentary”. Still as ambiguous as the first “metamorph”
,“the evolution and the beauty of forms” remains the
guideline of this work.

FREON is a reflection on the urban environment. It
is constructed like a visual poem; the images within cast esoteric
meanings hidden in deformed architectures. These architectures are
the basis of a mutated city ruled by mutated forms of communication.
The video introduces concepts like ‘anxiety’, ‘confrontation’,
‘energy’ ,’urban tribes’ or ‘alchemy’
and distorts the real image of the surrounding objects. It has a
heterogeneous inner sequential organisation which transforms perception
into a hallucinatory suite of dreamlike metaphorical visions.

TABUN
First of a trilogy called “The toxic gas suite”, this
film remains extremely heterogenous, combining Computer Generated
Images, pure video and hand-drawn animation. It focuses on landscape
(the second act will focus mostly on people, the third on warfare)
and creates a post-apocalyptic world crypted in deserted fields
and buildings, absurd symbol associations and clones.A dark atmospheric
video experiment.

SARIN 8\'10\'\' 2005
The second part of the \'toxic gas\' trilogy, \'sarin\' is an essay
on the anxiety and loneliness of a metropolis. Portraits of people
in closed spaces; mirrors vs. clones; animals and deserted urban
landscapes are the elements of this strange chronology...A constant
fear without origin follows the line between reality and hallucination...
BIOGRAFIA DOS AUTORES: Mihai Grecu was born in
Sebes(Romania) on the 28th of april 1981.After studying design and
graphic arts at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca(Romania)
between 1999 and 2003, he moved to France where he is actually studying
at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs of Strasbourg.
His works explore the structures and genesis of anxiety, from unicellular
parasites to videogame clichés. Distorted landscapes, unknown
menaces, clonage, neonlight and alchemy convert into a heterogenous
universe of rough-cut video and 3d animation
