The Son of Samsonite

SINOPSE: The Son of Samsonite uses several text streams to bombard the viewer with multiple narrative possibilities. A series of extended images (a man with a bundle of dynamite on his head, a figure lying in a bed of snow amongst suitcases, a couple embracing in a bathtub full of ice) reinforce the themes of destruction found in the texts. Composed of memories of other images (often cinematic), The Son of Samsonite is filled with irony and black humor, puns and pop songs, and a troubled relationship that unfolds amongst disasters.

BIOGRAFIA DOS AUTORES: Mike Olenick (b. 1978) is a video artist and photographer. He received his MFA (with an emphasis in Photography) from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and his BFA in Media Studies from the Columbus College of Art and Design.
Mike’s work often fuses fake moments from his own life with ones from cinema and pop culture. The resulting videos and photographs are a mangled collision of fact and fiction/comedy and tragedy/love and death. His work has been shown in the Ann Arbor Film Festival, The Oberhausen Film Festival, VIPER Basel, and the World Wide Video Festival.
Currently, Mike is a video editor in the Art & Technology Studio at the Wexner Center for the Arts, where he has worked on projects with Jennifer Reeder, Sadie Benning, Deborah Stratman, and Andrea Fraser, among others. He also teaches video production at the Columbus College of Art and Design.
